At heart, I am a businessperson who loves working with businesses and learning about my clients’ products, processes, and brands. Forming an intellectual property strategy with a new client is what I enjoy most about being an intellectual property lawyer.  Working with my clients to identify, solidify, and protect intellectual property assets is why referrals have remained our primary source of new clients.

Before law school I performed extensive technical research in two quite different disciplines—audio electronics and biochemistry. I attended The University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law, where I served on the Law and Psychology Review, Campbell Moot Court Board, and the Bruce B. Siegal Intellectual Property Moot Court Team.

Representative Matters:
  • Obtained favorable settlement for machine manufacturer in patent infringement lawsuit.
  • Successfully negotiated favorable license terms for chemical company (client) with major university.
  • Drafted and prosecuted patent applications in many technical areas, including software, medical devices, manufacturing processes, machines, shipping containers, chemical compounds, and many more.
Education:
  • The University of Alabama, B.S., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa
  • The University of Alabama School of Law, J.D.
Admissions:
  • Alabama
  • Southern District of Alabama
  • United States Patent and Trademark Office

I love helping protect our clients’ vision. Our clients live life on their own terms, and it is rewarding to see their vision develop into a successful brand. I cannot imagine practicing another type of law. Trademark law is challenging, complex, and interesting, but above all, it allows me to work with people and companies I admire.

I focus my practice on trademark selection, clearance, prosecution, and enforcement, including proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast and graduated from The University of Alabama and The University of Alabama School of Law, where I served on the Alabama Law Review, Campbell Moot Court Board, and the Bruce B. Siegal Intellectual Property Moot Court Team.

Representative Matters:
  • Filed over 100 federal trademark applications, protecting a wide variety of goods and services, including clothing, software, and consumer products
  • Overcame the Trademark Office’s refusal to register BLACKBELT trademark in light of registered BLACK BELT trademark, both in Class 36
  • Overcome the Trademark Office’s refusal to register SHIPTRACK in light of SHIPTRAX, both for computer software
Education:
  • The University of Alabama, B.A., summa cum laude
  • The University of Alabama School of Law, J.D., cum laude
Admissions:
  • Alabama
  • Louisiana

I take great pride in working with companies and individuals to identify protectable products and processes and then draft patent applications to protect those inventions. I especially enjoy working directly with inventors to draft a patent application that really captures the essence of each invention.

I am a registered patent attorney and focus my practice on patent preparation and prosecution.

I grew up in the New Orleans area, and earned a law degree from The Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Louisiana State University. Before going to law school, I worked in industry for several years at a polymer plant as a process engineer over the plant’s distillation and reactor units.

Representative Matters:
  • Handled office actions with the USPTO in fields ranging from chemical compositions to mechanical processes
  • Handled intellectual property license negotiations on behalf of client
  • Drafted and prosecuted patent applications in many technical areas, including chemical, mechanical, and biological

Education:
